Visit Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha to witness world’s largest white crocodiles

Kendrapara (Odisha), Feb 19 (ANI): The Bhitarkanika National Park is the core area of Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary located in the north-east region of Kendrapara district in the state of Odisha. It spreads over 145 km and is surrounded by the Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary spread over 672 km (259 sq mi). It was designated as national park on 16 September 1998 and as a Ramsar site by UNESCO on 19 August 2002. Bhitarkanika supports vital biodiversity including dense mangroves, largest population of estuarine crocodiles, the rare white crocodile (Sankhua), water monitors, king cobra, python, varieties of resident and migratory birds, and a number of mammalian species like spotted deer, wild boar, fishing cat, otter, etc. Bhitarkanika has taken a pivotal position as the best ecotourism destination in Odisha. There are exemplary amenities in offer for the tourists. The pristine ambience splashed by green splendors coupled with exotic species of endangered flora and fauna attracts great tourist influx. The area supports rich biodiversity. In the year 1975 there were only 90 Crocodiles in this area. Now it has been counted as 1742.As hunting was strictly ban no of deer also increase to about 5000. This place has a distinction of housing 23 feet long crocodile. It also holds the Guinness World Record of owning a skeleton of 19.8 feet long estuarine crocodile. A museum and Hatchery has been developed at Dangmal to attract tourists.
