Teenage Indian rifle shooter Nischal won a silver medal in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions (3P) at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol stage in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday to give India a second medal on the final day of the tournament.

This is India's first medal in the tournament. The Rio event will be the last ISSF World Cup for rifles and pistol shooters in 2023 before the finals in Doha, Qatar, from November 18 to 27.
Sagar Dangi shot 157.4 in the final and was the lone Indian to make it to the top eight stage. Italian Federico Maldini won gold in the event.

The ISSF World Championship in 2023 serves as a qualifying event for the Olympics in Paris in 2024. The best four finishers (one from each country) in each of the 12 Olympic individual shooting events received a seat on their national teams, giving a total of 48 Olympic quotas up for grabs.
The Indian shooter emerged at the top of field of 50 shooters, scoring 577 points from 60 shots. South Korea's Gunhyeok Lee had to settle for silver with 574 points (17 X’s) while France's Kevin Chapon secured a bronze with 574 points (11 X’s), as per Olympics.com.
