Since the start of a major anti-junta offensive late last month in Myanmar, border crossings in northern Shan State to China, including Muse and Chin She Haw, have been closed.
The refugees have walked for several days crossing mountains and dense jungle with their meagre belongings. Living off the land on bamboo shoot and game they make their way into Mizoram.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday said that security has been reinforced along the India-Myanmar border in Manipur in view of the recent conflict between the rebel groups and the military junta in the bordering areas of Myanmar.
"In view of the evolving security situation in Myanmar, all Indian nationals are advised to avoid non-essential travel," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a press release on Tuesday.

More than 26,000 from Myanmar's Rakhine state have been displaced since Monday after fresh fighting between Myanmar Armed Forces (MAF) and the Arakan Army (AA) according to the United Nations, CNN reported on Saturday.
Among the 5000 Myanmar refugees who are now taking shelter in six refugee camps in Zokhawthar area in Mizoram's Champhai district, which is located along the Indo-Myanmar border, there are many women and children who are living in makeshift tents in the camps.
Following the airstrike by the Myanmar army, as many as 5000 Myanmar nationals crossed over the international border and entered the Zokhawthar area to take shelter and many of them have now returned to their country.
Amid the clashes between the ruling military and anti-junta protesters in Myanmar, scores of refugees, who crossed over into India fleeing the violence, have found temporary refuge in the Zokhawthar area of Mizoram's Champhai district.
