Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse | Location for vertical drilling identified; workers to be evacuated soon

Utarkashi (Uttarakhand), November 22 (ANI): The rescue operations at the Uttarkashi tunnel collapse site continued on Day 11. 41 labourers are trapped inside the rubble and all efforts are being made to evacuate them. Now, the location for vertical drilling to reach out to the trapped men has been identified. Road construction works continued on Nov 22 near the tunnel to allow machines to pass through. Border Roads Organisation is engaged in the construction of roads near the Silkyara Tunnel site. Rescue operations have been intensified, all efforts are being made to maintain workers’ safety. On November 21, an endoscopy camera was used to know the whereabouts of the workers. Hot meals were also sent to the trapped workers through a 6-inch pipeline on Day 9. International tunnelling expert Arnold Dix has assured that the workers would be safely evacuated. The mishap took place in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi after a part of Silkyara tunnel collapsed on Nov 12. Since then, several teams from different rescue agencies are working tirelessly in Uttarkashi.
